A collection of writing by Dominic Riccitello — intimate conversations, personal essays, and poetic reflections on relationships, loss, and self-discovery.

in my memory

in an oasis of memory
i sit upon
a picture i paint
slowly but ever so
carefully
like if i move too quickly
the colors might become
something else

we extend in thought
in passion
in emotion
your fingers beside mine
your eyes against the sunlight
and i sit here
inside this moment
for not nearly enough
letting the warmth move
where words cannot

i extend this
in you
in me
in ways where i
think of you like this
in the quiet before speaking
in the softness of looking
a second longer
than i probably should

we walk side by side
with hands too close
but too far to touch
and somehow
i like it like this
the space between us
holding more than
either of our hands could

the song i listen to
inside your eyes
the way a melody can exist
without ever being played
and in this moment
i feel like i could die
not from sadness
but from feeling something
so completely
i almost do not know
where to place it

they say there are as many stars in the sky
as there have been lives beneath them
and i think of this sometimes
how many people have stood
beneath this same light
how many hands almost touched
before finally finding each other

i wonder if i have known you before
in another song
in another light
in some room
i no longer remember
but somehow still recognize

you’re like the clouds
soft
warm
moving slowly enough
for me to notice
but never still enough
for me to know
where they will go

and i love to look at you
a little too long
to memorize what i can
before the moment moves

because sometimes
too long feels right

sometimes the seconds
we should look away
are the ones
i want to keep
